If you or a loved one have noticed changes due to aging, consider the following home safety tips for seniors.

If you or a loved one have noticed changes due to aging, consider the following home safety tips for seniors:

  • Keep emergency numbers in an easy to access place.
  • Store medications safely, in their original containers. If you must transfer medication to a new container, clearly label it with the medication name, dose, and expiration date.
  • Make sure there is adequate lighting throughout the residence.
  • Keep a fire extinguisher and smoke detector on every floor of the home.
  • Store frequently-used items on lower shelves in the kitchen to limit the use of stools or step-ladders. If you must use a step stool, use one with a bar to hold onto.
  • Remove electrical or telephone cords from walking areas.
  • If a walking aid is used, make sure it is measured correctly.
  • Avoid rugs or make sure they are tacked down securely.
  • Ensure staircase steps have a non-slip surface and sturdy railings.
  • Wipe up spills promptly.
  • Get an annual eye exam.

Another great idea is to consider medical alerts. WH Security offers two different styles of medical alerts for even more peace of mind. One is for homebound individuals and another is for seniors on-the-go, which is powered by GPS technology with Wi-fi location services. Both are professionally monitored by our 24/7 local monitoring center who will immediately respond when the alert is activated. Learn more about medical alerts on our website or by calling 763.477.3664.
