Protect your home before your spring break vacation

This year’s winter hasn’t resulted in much snow or cold, but many Midwesterners are still looking forward to a break from the gloomy gray skies. As you prepare to head somewhere sunnier, you may find yourself worrying about what you’re forgetting. Toothbrush? Pajamas? Swimsuit? Check, check, check. Don’t let that forgotten thing be your home security!

WH Security’s intrusion protection systems are designed to identify unauthorized entry into your home. We offer door, motion, and glass break sensors. We also offer additional sensors that merge seamlessly with your home security system. Common add-on sensors include smoke, carbon monoxide, water, and extreme temperatures. which are active and connected to WH Security’s monitoring center whether your system is armed or disarmed.

WH Security systems are monitored 24/7 to ensure your alarms are quickly routed, prioritized, and resolved. In addition to alerting first responders when necessary, the monitoring center will call you, or alert your list of backup contacts if you don’t answer, potentially preventing thousands of dollars of damage to your home.

Before you go

Before leaving, lock all doors and windows, and put a large dowel rod or other door stopper in your sliding glass door track to prevent it from being opened. WH Security’s professionally monitored door and window sensors offer peace of mind that they’ll remain closed while you’re away.

Test your security system to ensure it is communicating with the response center. Testing should be done monthly, even if you’re not heading out on a trip.

Lower your thermostat to save money but keep it above 55 degrees to prevent frozen pipes. And if you have an interactive thermostat from WH Security, adjust your home’s temperature from your smartphone on your way home, so your house is at the right temperature upon your return.

Automate indoor and outdoor lights to simulate someone being home using WH Security’s interactive security system. If that’s not a part of your system, set up your lights on a timer.

Call WH Security to verify your call list and update it if necessary.

Finally, ask a trusted friend or neighbor to look out for unexpected deliveries. Ask them to pick up your mail, or have the post office set up a free mail hold for you. Make sure a neighbor or a responsible student will be willing to shovel your driveway if it snows, so it’s not obvious there are no tire tracks in and out of your driveway.
